This year, the American Museum of Natural History – housed in a collection of 19th- and early 20th-century buildings between New York’s Central Park West and Columbus Avenue – has been updated with an additional building: the Richard Gilder Center.
Named for the philanthropistPhilantrop(in)philanthropist Richard Gilder (1932–2020), the center was created by architect Jeanne Gang and her team at Studio Gang. Their design was inspired by stratum (pl. strata)Gesteinsschicht(en)strata of weatheredverwittertweathered rock.
